Otis College of Art and Design: Visual Effects Lab, Fall 2011
VFX Lab Fall 2011: Selective Color Replacement
Objective:
Paying careful attention to the role composition and color work with your sequence. Using at least 3 different shots (ie. establishing / wide shot, close up, medium shot, etc.) shoot a 3-4 second action with digital video camera and edit these together. Pay careful attention to the way one shot flows into the other, this should not be jaring. Designate an object to selectively color enhance. Since we are not using greenscreen, you will need to roto the object to alter it's color from the background.
Building on compositional strategies from the films used in the previous project. Use the rule of thirds, the golden mean, the rule of odds, limiting focus, diagonals, triangles, etc.
Create a diagram by drawing over a still frame from your sequence for your blog.
These will be composited and color graded in Nuke.
Things to consider:
-This test has a one week turnaround. It is due at the begining of class next week. Turn in a QT movie as well as a movie posted on your blog.
-Cinematography, the composition and framing should be well designed.
-Lighting, proper exposure, white ballance. Starting with good source footage is a necessity.
-Production value: Location, wardrobe, stagecraft.
-Teams of 2 people
Rotoscoping Guidelines
1) Multiple shapes: don't use the "Gingerbread Man" method.
2) Follow the "extents" of the motion.
3) Use as few Keyframes as possible.
4) "Point to point" mapping. Points should stay with their landmarks.
(keyframes should be placed on logical frames).
5) Becareful about adding points. The interpolation may not do what you expect.
6) Animate shapes off as you don't need them.
